Bible Baptist Children's Church
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
Charged with adding a children’s church building for infants through fifth graders, Greenline chose a two story plan to work with the massing of the other campus buildings. Prominently placed near the major road running past the campus, this 18,000 square foot, 23 classroom building addition was designed to catch the eyes of young families. Its geometry and juxtaposition with the existing buildings contribute an energy and excitement to the 1980’s campus. The facade window fins invigorate the street presentation with bold color and are oriented north to scoop light into the classrooms.
Officially named the Kitty Hodges Children’s Building, the structure suggests that this church family values the young, their innocence, their sense of playfulness and adventure. The interior spaces compose a bright and lively learning environment.
The first floor includes a lobby space, administrative offices and a check-in area meant to convey the feeling of a tree-house. A small stage and several classrooms complete the space, which is able to draw in children with its playful theme, and still provide valuable teachings in the adjacent classrooms. The upstairs play area features a two-story slide and views into the upper branches of a 200-year-old live oak tree. It also contains a large performance stage, air hockey, games and reading spaces. Classrooms line the second-story hallway that ends with a cafeteria.
This new 300-student children’s church facility will be instrumental in building the congregation’s next generation.
