The Kimpton Brice Hotel
SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
Greenline worked with the Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group to rebrand and renovate the former Mulberry Inn, located on Easy Bay Street in Savannah's Historic District. The boutique hotel, which originally opened as a Coca-Cola bottling plant in 1902, combines traditional southern beauty with a modern flair. The 145-room boutique hotel sits in the heart of downtown on Washington Square.
This rehabilitation project maintained the exterior historic features of the structure while renovating the interior to create a more modern feel. The exterior features that remain are the Savannah gray brick walls with pilasters and dentil brick molding which is an example of Savannah’s early Greek Revival architecture. The historical brick walls that were part of the original Coca-Cola bottling factory also still remain. The color scheme was inspired by Savannah gray brick, and the hotel’s name, The Brice, is Gaelic for “brick,” which was inspired from Savannah’s Irish and architectural history.
The interior renovations included updates to all guest rooms to create a more modern feel and the redesign of a number of suites which included the creation of wet rooms with floor to ceiling wall tile surrounding the wet room and the addition of soaking tubs for relaxation. The common space areas were redesigned to open up the interior to the exterior and to allow more natural light into the entrance, meeting rooms and restaurant areas. The interior design is inspired by the property’s use as a livery stable.
This renovation project has not only preserved the integrity of the site, it has transformed the former hotel to its current state as a new, boutique hotel owned by one of the most admired hospitality groups in the United States. The Brice and its on-site restaurant, Pacci Italian Kitchen + Bar, have quickly become favorites among locals and tourists alike. The facility has won numerous industry awards including one of “The South’s Best New Hotels 2015” and a “Notable New Hotel” by Conde Nast Traveler.
